Cherub Choir and Advent Family Night

Advent and Christmas Greetings to our Cherub Families!

Here are some details about our Cherubs' participation in our Advent Family Night festivities --
Cherubs should arrive by 4:40 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 2, in the chapel. We will be there with their robes so they can get those on and then briefly rehearse their four carols.
They are third and fifth on the program.

What that means is that the Handbell Choir will ring first.

Second, the Children's Choir sings.

Third, the Cherubs sing their three carols -- Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, Away in a Manger and I Saw Three Ships.

Fourth, the Children's Choir sings again.

Fifth, the Cherubs sing their fourth and last carol with the Children.

There are a few more carols after that, including from the Youth Choir, and then, when the program's over, we will help the Cherubs take their robes off near the Walker Chapel side of the sanctuary and head downstairs to the Fellowship Hall for crafts followed by dinner.
Thank you, parents, who have asked for words so they can go over the music at home!  The Cherubs were happily singing forth all of these songs last evening, knowing both words and music, but keeping it all fresh in the mind and heart is always a good thing. So, here are the words ---
"Infant Holy, Infant Lowly" (no. 37 in our hymnal)
Infant Holy, Infant lowly,
For His bed a cattle stall,
Oxen lowing, little knowing
Christ the babe is Lord of all.
Swift are winging angels singing,
Noels ringing, tidings bringing.
Christ the babe is Lord of all.
"Away in a Manger" (no. 24 in our hymnal, the Kirkpatrick version)
Away in a manger, no crib for His bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby wakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

"I Saw Three Ships"
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day in the morning.
And what was in those ships, all three,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day?
And what was in those ships, all three,
On Christmas Day in the morning?
Our Savior Christ and His Lady
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
Our Savior Christ and His Lady
On Christmas Day in the morning.

The words to the refrain of "The Glowing Star" that the Cherubs will sing with the Children's Choir --
See the glowing star,
It fills our hearts with gladness.
What a wondrous light,
It takes away all sadness.
Gloria, Hosanna, lead us to the Christ Child.
Gloria, Hosanna, lead us to God's Son.
Thank you all for your help and we can't wait to see you Sunday to help us usher in the Christmas season. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail or call Mrs. Garletts.

APC Spiritual Enrichment Retreat 2013 - Christianity in Crisis

CHRISTIANITY IN CRISIS:

The church was tearing itself apart.  Leadership was timid.  Cliques had formed. Arrogance replaced morality.  Worship became selfish. Jealousy was rampant.  Strongly-held beliefs disappeared.

What can church at its worst teach us about living the spiritual life?

Join the Ardmore Presbyterian Church on January 25-27, 2013 as we explore
God’s response to crisis.

The Corinthians and Today’s Spirituality

Meet Dr. Soards, an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and professor of New Testament at the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.  He is a frequent lecturer at conferences and schools for pastors throughout the United States and a much sought after guest preacher and teacher. He has published more than 60 articles, reviews, and sermons in leading theological dictionaries and professional journals worldwide and is the author of over twenty books, including The Apostle Paul: An Introduction to His Writings and Teaching (Paulist Press, 1987), The Speeches in Acts: Their Context, Content, and Concerns (Westminster John Knox, 1994); and I Corinthians (Hendrickson Publishers, 1999).

There is also a program for the kids. Using song, stories and crafts, our children will learn about a spirituality based on God's grace in Jesus Christ.  Sherina Poorman, Anne Foote and friends are preparing a fun time for our children.

Please register by January 21st on our website or by mail. A cost of $10 per person or $25 per family helps provide the food and materials for all attending.  Scholarships are available.

Message from Preschool Mom, Jen Migliaccio: Thanks to those who have already donated labels and encouraging others to do the same.  If you are not sure what to cut out, send in the entire label, and I'll do the cutting.  The labels are on Campbell's products including Pepperidge Farm, V8 products, Swanson, and Pace products.  No donation of labels is too big or small, and they allow us to get educational materials for the preschool.  Thank you!!!
